Uttarakhand Government Honors Literary Figures on Hindi Day

Celebrating Literary Excellence in Uttarakhand

On the occasion of Hindi Day, Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami recognized prominent literary figures with the Long-Term Literary Service Award. He announced plans to establish two literary villages aimed at transforming the state into a hub for literary tourism.

During a ceremony held in the state, the Chief Minister posthumously awarded the Long-Term Literary Service Award 2025 to notable authors Shailesh Matiyani, Girish Tiwari, Sherda Anpadh, and Heera Singh Rana. Additionally, Somwari Lal Uniyal and Atul Sharma were also honored with this prestigious recognition.

Dhami revealed that recipients of the Long-Term Literary Service Award will receive a cash prize of five lakh rupees. He elaborated on the government's initiative to create two literary villages equipped with modern amenities for writers.

This initiative is expected to advance Uttarakhand's development as a literary tourism center. The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government is actively working to preserve, compile, and restore the region's diverse literary heritage through the Uttarakhand Institute, ensuring future generations remain connected to their rich linguistic legacy.

He also mentioned that the government is honoring writers through various awards such as the 'Uttarakhand Literary Glory Award', 'Literary Jewel', and 'Lifetime Achievement' awards, while also encouraging the younger generation by organizing creative writing competitions.

According to the Chief Minister, creative writing contests are being held for students from sixth grade to university level, with over 100 young authors already recognized for their contributions.

Furthermore, the state government has provided grants to 62 authors for publishing their works over the past two years and allocated a special budget of 25 lakh rupees this year to promote book publishing.
